We have a travel tradition in our family. It started when our oldest son, Julian, turned eleven. He loves theater and good food so my husband and I took him on a Broadway/food weekend to New York City. We saw Billy Elliott, ate fantastic food, and started another tradition: the birthday boy would get to taste his first (full cup, caffeinated, non-covert) coffee drink on this trip.
Our second son, Jacques, turned eleven a few months ago and I set to work planning the “Jacques weekend.” Choosing a destination was easy. Jacques is truly alive and happiest when he is in water, our United Miles could take us as far south as Miami, and none of us had ever been to the Florida Keys.
Hour 1: Café con leche and empanadas at Enriqueta’s, Miami
Day 1: Everglades National Park
Day 2: Key West, Casa Marina Resort
Day 3: Dry Tortugas National Park
My youngest, Jeremy, is only six years old so I have years to prepare his trip. Right now, he likes trucks, cream cheese, and yelling at Jacques. I love a challenge!
