Last summer, we spent a week in a former bakery in a small medieval village in the Loire Valley with a New York friend and her son. We all wanted to live in a “typical” village where the kids could be free to roam around a bit, we could visit local castles, and, of course, eat and drink well! With that to go on, I went through HomeAway listings and found a house in St. Aignan, a small medieval town on the Cher River. The river location was excellent for the boys since they could fish for salamanders, go canoeing, and even take a dip in the water. We were also able to send the boys out for our morning croissants (in the name of “experiential travel” of course, nothing to do with us begin lazy).
